Evaluation of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
CIC's evaluation of the PNP focused on the economic outcomes and mobility of provincial nominees admitted between 2005 and 2009. Overall, the report has found that the program is working well, although there are differences in economic outcomes by province or territory and by PNP stream. The scope of the study was limited to assessing the PNP from a national perspective. Provinces and territories are expected to conduct regular evaluations of their own PNPs.

Mentoring to Placement (M2P) for Environmental Professionals Program
Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is now recruiting clients for the Mentoring to Placement (M2P) for Environmental Professionals Program. The M2P Program is an Ontario bridge training program that helps internationally trained professionals to access employment opportunities in their field. The deadline for applications is February 17, 2012.

2012 Nansen Refugee Award
Instituted in 1954, the Nansen Refugee Award is given annually to an individual or an organization in recognition of extraordinary and dedicated service to refugees and is the most prestigious honour conferred by the UNHCR. The deadline for nominations is February 29, 2012.

Immigration policy must continue to favour skilled workers
Skills-assessed economic immigrants have had consistently higher earnings than other classes of immigrants and Canada should therefore reverse the decline in the number of immigrants admitted into the skilled worker category, according to a new study published by the Institute for Research on Public Policy.

Proposed Changes to the Citizenship Program
The government has published in the Canada Gazette a notice of intent to change the regulations to require applicants for citizenship to submit with their citizenship application a proof of at least Canadian Language Benchmark level 4 in speaking and listening, in English or French.

Asylum applications in industrialized countries rise in first six months in 2011
UNHCR's "Asylum Levels and Trends in Industrialized Countries, First Half 2011" report shows that 198,300 asylum applications were lodged in the period between January 1 and June 30, compared to 169,300 in the same period in 2010.

All Roads Seed Grant

HRSDC Project Funding - Foreign Credential Recognition
Projects must focus on developing and implementing processes and tools to recognize the credentials of foreign-trained individuals. Funding applications will be assessed on an as-received basis.
